Bret grew up in Oakland, CA then went to college in Daytona Beach, FL and earned degrees in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. This is also where he met Dr. Schaller. Time working for Buell/Harley-Davidson wouldn’t seem like experiences that would lend themselves to running an animal hospital. Buell Motorcycle Company was also a startup where the process of running a company was just another thing everyone had to develop while designing their first motorcycle line. This unusual pairing of backgrounds is apparent when you visit Willow Creek Animal Hospital. Our paperless records, automated inventory control system, digital radiology, satellite tv streaming into exam rooms, and flatscreens everywhere are some of the signs there’s an engineer in this hospital.
Architectural design and construction was not part of his formal training, however after modeling the building in 3 dimensional CAD space, Dr. Schaller and Bret went through many revisions before coming up with the ideal layout of the building as you see it now. Then after the computer work was done, Bret hired local people and lead the demolition and reconstruction that is now Willow Creek Animal Hospital.
Not having worked his way up into the Practice Manager role as other animal health care professionals do, Bret joined the Carolina Veterinary Managers Association. After several years in this organization, he is the current President. He brings the presentations on incorporating new technology and soaks up the content from this group of practice professionals.
